Description

The Data Scientist role within the Sports Modeling & Innovation team focuses on addressing complex sports modelling challenges. The successful candidate will manage the entire lifecycle of predictive models, from initial data collection through to the implementation of results. This involves creating tools and dashboards, pricing markets, and generating actionable insights that support the broader FanDuel Group. The role requires close collaboration with product, risk, and trading teams to model player and team performance as well as game outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, iterate, and take to production machine learning models to predict sports outcomes and solve problems.
  • Iterate and improve on the betting product range to ensure a market-leading offering.
  • Perform continuous improvement in pricing techniques, both at an individual level and in collaboration with trading teams to optimise predictive and derivative model pricing.
  • Construct models, analyses, and solutions in response to questions or problems posed by stakeholders or colleagues.
  • Manage the data preparation process from collection through to cleaning.
  • Build robust predictive models, demonstrating capabilities in feature and model selection.
  • Contribute to a production code environment.
  • Work with decision-makers across the company to understand their goals, identify opportunities to use data to develop new insights, and improve business results.
  • Create dashboards and data visualisations for analysis and communication.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 1 year of industry experience in data science, analytics, or engineering (preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in a highly numerate major such as Math, Stats, or Economics, or relevant experience in data science (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with high proficiency in Python or R, and SQL (required).
  • Understanding and application of Bayesian statistics (required).
  • Experience building and using models to help create production-level products and tools (required).
  • Comfortable with command line tools and GitHub (required).
  • Object-oriented design and coding skills (required).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (required).
  • Ability to work across teams, locations, and time zones (required).
  • Interest or experience in Sports Gaming and/or Fantasy Sports (required).
