Senior Oracle DB Developer

Description

Playtech‘s Sports unit is looking for an experienced Senior Oracle DB Developer with great communication skills. We are looking for a Database Developer / Engineer with a strong Oracle background to join our team. The role will primarily focus on Oracle database development and performance, while also contributing to PostgreSQL and cloud‑based workloads on GCP as the platform evolves. This is a hands‑on role suited for someone comfortable working in non‑greenfield environments, where legacy designs, ad‑hoc solutions, and shared ownership are part of day‑to‑day reality. Collaboration with application developers and iterative improvement of existing solutions are key aspects of the position.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain Oracle database code, including SQL and PL/SQL (procedures, packages, functions).
  • Analyse and improve existing database designs and legacy implementations, often created outside the DBA team.
  • Work closely with application developers to review, optimise, and stabilise database interactions.
  • Investigate and resolve performance, data integrity, and reliability issues across Oracle and PostgreSQL environments.
  • Support and improve monitoring, alerting, and operational visibility of database systems.
  • Contribute to the gradual standardisation of database practices, coding guidelines, and tooling.
  • Participate in ad‑hoc projects and scripts, helping turn tactical solutions into more maintainable ones where possible.
  • Assist with PostgreSQL workloads, as the platform adoption grows.
  • Document findings, improvements, and technical decisions to support knowledge sharing within the team.
Requirements
  • Have strong, hands‑on experience with Oracle Database.
  • Bring excellent SQL and PL/SQL skills, including troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Are experienced in working with existing and legacy database systems.
  • Understand how applications interact with databases in real‑world environments.
  • Are comfortable operating in setups with shared or evolving ownership.
  • Demonstrate solid problem‑solving skills and a pragmatic, improvement‑driven mindset.
  • Work well in close collaboration with DBAs, developers, and other technical teams.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Exposure to GCP and managed database services.
  • Familiarity with database migrations or refactoring efforts.
  • Scripting or automation skills (e.g. Python, Bash).
  • Basic knowledge of MS SQL Server.
