Senior Legal Counsel (Data Privacy)

Description

Provide data and privacy-related legal advice and day-to-day support required to Tencent’s global businesses. Advise on compliance across all aspects of global privacy laws and regulations, including data protection, data security and data breach rules. Develop and implement program to facilitate compliance with international data privacy and personal information collection rules, regulations and standards, including the GDPR, CCPA and PDPO/ PDPA. Analyse global privacy legal requirements and keep our stakeholders abreast of all new privacy laws and regulations that may have implications to Tencent.

Responsibilities
  • Provide data and privacy-related legal advice and day-to-day support required to Tencent’s global businesses.
  • Advise on compliance across all aspects of global privacy laws and regulations, including data protection, data security and data breach rules.
  • Develop and implement program to facilitate compliance with international data privacy and personal information collection rules, regulations and standards, including the GDPR, CCPA and PDPO/ PDPA.
  • Manage and coordinate outside counsel for all privacy law projects.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and administer legal and commercial documentations.
  • Analyse global privacy legal requirements and keep our stakeholders abreast of all new privacy laws and regulations that may have implications to Tencent.
Requirements
  • Common law qualified lawyer with at least 4 years PQE, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience.
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment.
  • CIPP/E and CIPM certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proven track record in dealing with data and privacy issues relating to international businesses.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of a global privacy compliance program is a plus.
  • Experience in conducting data privacy reviews of products, including ROPs, PIA and TIAs, to ensure compliance with global privacy regulations and internal policies.
  • Demonstrated experience in working closely with business teams and technical teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Strong interest in the internet, gaming, cloud services and AI space.
  • Proven track record in problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proactive approach and able to handle matters independently.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin) to interact with stakeholders in China HQ and other regions.
