Technical Data Consultant

Description

To mitigate key-person risk by mapping the end-to-end data landscape, documenting core business logic, and creating a sustainable operational runbook for Retail Data.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct deep-dive discovery and code reviews independently and with the current engineering team (where possible) to understand the flow of data from Retail systems to the data warehouse.
  • Create high-level and granular visual diagrams of the current data infrastructure, including cloud resources, ETL/ELT pipelines, and third-party integrations.
  • Author operational manuals using Betfred documentation standards, create a set of documents that the team can easily maintain going forwards that outline how to troubleshoot, restart, and maintain critical pipelines in the event of a system failure.
  • Identify and document the SQL/Other logic used to define key retail metrics to ensure consistency across reporting.
  • Design a lightweight documentation framework (e.g., Confluence or Markdown-based docs) that the team can easily maintain moving forward.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in Reverse-Engineering data systems where little to no documentation exists. (required)
  • Proficiency in [SQL Server, AWS Lakehouse Architecture]. (required)
  • Expert-level ability to create clear architecture diagrams. (required)
  • The ability to work with senior engineers who may be protective of their processes, framing the project as empowering rather than replacing them. (required)
