Software Engineer, Java (Regulatory Onboarding)
As an engineer within Bitpanda’s Regulatory Onboarding team, you will build the critical backend infrastructure that enables millions of customers to onboard securely, seamlessly and compliantly across multiple markets. You’ll design and scale high-performance systems powering KYC, identity verification, sanctions screening and onboarding orchestration, helping Bitpanda navigate complex regulatory requirements while delivering a world-class user experience. Working at the intersection of engineering, compliance and operations, you’ll solve deeply technical challenges in a fast-moving, highly regulated fintech environment where reliability, scalability and innovation directly impact customer growth and platform trust. This is an opportunity to shape the systems that form the gateway to the entire Bitpanda ecosystem.
- Design and develop scalable, resilient backend services using Java within an event-driven microservices architecture
- Build and optimise systems supporting KYC/KYB workflows, identity verification, sanctions screening and onboarding automation
- Write clean, maintainable and future-proof code with strong unit, integration and end-to-end test coverage
- Collaborate closely with Product, Compliance, Operations and Risk teams to turn regulatory and operational requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Continuously improve reliability, observability, performance and developer experience across onboarding infrastructure
- Strong backend engineering experience using Java and modern frameworks such as Spring Boot (required)
- Experience designing and maintaining scalable REST APIs and distributed systems (required)
- Practical knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, ideally Postgres and MongoDB (required)
- Experience working with event-driven architectures and message brokers (Apache Kafka, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ or SQS) (required)
- Familiarity with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure and containerised environments such as AWS and Kubernetes (required)
