Head of Data Architecture & Engineering

Description

As our Head of Data Architecture & Engineering, you will own and drive Casumo’s data architecture strategy, ensuring it aligns with our wider Data Strategy and business ambitions. You’ll lead the evolution of our data platform, ensuring it is scalable, secure, resilient, and future-ready. In this role, you’ll collaborate across the organisation to enable high-quality and timely data delivery, integrate data across multiple sources, and champion best practices in data governance, architecture, and engineering. You’ll also lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of data architects, engineers, and analysts, creating a culture where innovation and collaboration thrive.

Responsibilities
  • Define and drive the organisation’s data architecture strategy that aligns with the overarching Data Strategy.
  • Design, manage, document, and evolve the overall data architecture.
  • Continuously evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance data storage, processing, and access capabilities.
  • Implement appropriate data management technologies, processes, and frameworks to enable data storage, data ingestion, data processing, data integration, data governance, data science, AI tool integration, etc.
  • Plan and manage the integration of data from various sources, ensuring data quality, timeliness of data delivery, and security.
  • Implement best practices to ensure that the data platform meets the performance, scalability, and security needs of the organisation.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency.
  • Develop and enforce data security policies to protect sensitive information.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and business stakeholders to understand data needs and provide data to meet those requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to business data requests, providing solutions and actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with product and technology teams to ensure the data architecture is aligned with product roadmaps and technical systems.
  • Lead, inspire, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of data architects, data engineers, and data analysts.
  • Establish a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing data architectures, data engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership experience managing data teams, including data architects, data engineers, data analysts.
  • Proficiency in relational databases and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with ETL tools and processes.
  • Strong experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) for data storage, processing (incl. real time processing), and analytics.
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts (e.g. Inmon, Kimball, Data Vault), and technologies (e.g., Google Big Query, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift).
  • Experience with implementing modern Delta Lake/Data Lakehouse architectures, also called medallion architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data management (e.g., SQL, Python).
  • Understanding data governance, data protection regulations, and security best practices.
  • Expertise in data modeling techniques and tools including transactional and dimensional modelling.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines for managing data infrastructure code.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Strategic thinker with a pragmatic approach to solving complex data challenges.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing technology landscapes and business needs.
  • Ability to align data architecture with the organisation’s long-term goals and objectives.
  • A forward-thinking mindset to explore and implement cutting-edge data technologies and methodologies.
  • Relevant certifications can enhance a candidate's qualifications.
  • Knowledge or exposure to the iGaming industry is not necessary but will definitely be considered a plus.
