Global Communications Manager, Games
Tencent is seeking a seasoned communications specialist to drive the global communications strategy primarily for Tencent Games and game titles in the Northeast Asia market, and secondarily support Tencent's corporate communications across the Northeast Asia market.
This is a strategic, high-impact role for a communications professional who can blend cultural fluency, strategic rigour, and creative instinct to shape how Tencent Games is perceived in the global market. You will be the in-market communications partner for our portfolio of world-class studios and titles, the steward of regional media relationships, and a key advisor to global and regional leadership on reputation, narrative, and market dynamics.
The role is based in Tokyo or Seoul. You will report on a solid line to the Head of Tencent Games Global Communications, and on a dotted line to the Head of Tencent APAC Corporate Communications, working at the intersection of Tencent Games' global comms function and Tencent's broader corporate reputation agenda in the region.
- Define and own the communications strategy for Tencent Games and game titles in the Northeast Asia market, translating global priorities into locally resonant strategy and narratives that build relevance, trust, and player affinity.
- Drive communications for Tencent Games' portfolio — including published titles and partner studios — across the full product lifecycle in the Northeast Asia market.
- Partner across studios, publishing, marketing, legal, compliance, public affairs, and global comms peers to deliver integrated, well-aligned communications strategy.
- Manage PR agency partners and coordinate with internal stakeholders to drive quality execution, effective resource allocation and measurable communications outcomes.
- With a primary focus on coordinating and executing media communications plans for Tencent's game business in Japan and Korea, including the planning and execution of media events such as press briefings, exhibitions, open days, media tours and executive engagements.
- Support communications needs across Tencent's business groups, namely social communications, digital content, payment, and enterprise solutions, in Northeast Asia.
- Build and maintain relationships with the media and relevant external partners to support Tencent's game business and other business groups' corporate reputation efforts in Japan and Korea.
- Lead local content planning and contribution for Tencent's owned channels in Japan and Korea, including social media platforms, websites, newsletters and other corporate communications materials, as well as gather and localise content from internal teams to ensure locally relevant messaging across channels.
- Monitor local media landscape, industry trends and public sentiment, and support issues management and crisis communications in Japan and Korea, working closely with the Game Global Comms team/APAC Corporate Communications, business teams, legal and policy teams where needed.
- 5+ years of experience in PR, corporate communications, or media relations, ideally with meaningful experience at a global company or top-tier international communications agency.
- Solid, hands-on craft across the core PR disciplines — strategy and messaging development, executive and editorial writing, media pitching and event execution, issues and crisis management, spokesperson preparation, and reputation management.
- Demonstrated track record of leading in-market communications and media relations in Japan, with strong existing relationships in the Japanese media landscape.
- Native or near-native Japanese or Korean, written and verbal.
- Fluent Chinese (Mandarin) and/or English — at least one is required at a working professional level.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to operate effectively in a complex, matrixed, cross-time-zone organisation.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Preferred: A video gamer.
- Preferred: Prior PR / communications experience in the video games or technology industry.

Salary:
Annual salary: Negotiable (will be commensurate with experience and skills, and will be preferentially treated according to our company regulations). Salary increases and bonuses are available.
Fixed overtime allowance: Includes 35 hours per month for general employees.
Includes 10 hours per month for management positions.
